years ago as an impoverished student in the UK I rode Triumphs & BSAs (which gave me confidence in using a wrench)....always had an eye for the Zed....finally got round to getting one ....its ratty & shows its years but I'm gradually bringing it back to life. Rebuilt the forks & replaced the steering head bearings, renovated the wheels, brakes, chain, sprockets & swinging arm. Found a cracked cylinder lining & fitted a Wisco kit....onto the wiring now which is spaghetti.....

It has a Martek ignition system & the black box has four wires coming out....anyone out there help me with a wiring diagram or where these wires go? One wire (white) is connected to the battery- thats all I've got!

Look forward to sharing the experience as I go.

Ian

Ian, welcome to the forum, unfortunately all our experts have deserted us, of late. I hate to think we are loosing our Z1 technical component and have turned into a "historical society".

Hi Ian,

Welcome to the forum. Hope Garn is wrong about the technical guys leaving!!

Don't know anything about Martek or dyna etc. but I do know you can still pick up factory original points plates with all the components and wiring for the loom attached.

Price round the £100 mark. Have been warned off the repro ones.

Just in case you decide to take her back to standard spec. A few of us on here will know how to wire those up.

From Mark

Sorry, didn't mean the experts have left the site. I just don't see them around to solve technical queries enough these days... I think, this week, most are down at Phillip Island the MotoGP, watching Casey Stoner win.

Hi if you can't get the martec sorted I suggest a dyna s. Easy to fit, reasonably cheap and once they are set you forget. Points are a PIA.
I'm no expert but I was at the motogp at Phillip Island. Stoner Ruled :flags-australia:
